In 1998 I went to Sarajevo on an art student exchange program. This was my first voyage outside of Spain and as I grew to understand the Bosnians and their story, I discovered my interest in photography.
Ten years later in February of 2008 I decided to drive to Pristina to document the Kosovo independence celebrations and also to live that historic moment. As we left Barcelona we were aware of mounting Serbian tension on both sides of the Kosovar border.
The 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence was an act of the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government Assembly of Kosovo, adopted on the 17th of February 2008 by unanimity, which declared Kosovo to be independent from Serbia.
During those cold winter days, hundreds of thousands of Kosovars came out on the streets to celebrate their independence after years of conflict and transitional UN administration.
